About The Work

Emeka Nwagbara
Self-taught pioneer artist Emeka Nwagbara (born 1969) has always defied the odds. An accounting degree and an established career in the Oil and Gas, banking, and Information Technology industries did not stop Nwagbara from making the bold decision to pivot to his long-term aspiration to be an artist. This pivot marked the beginning of a long-fought, self-taught journey towards the realist artist we know today. A journey that includes high profile art projects and commissions for the Nigerian government, private collectors and corporate clientele.
In what can be described as an artistic pilgrimage, Nwagbara has firmly established himself as one of Nigeria’s frontier contemporary artists with help from mentors such as Edosa Ogiugu, Abiodun Olaku, and Ejor Wallace. Nwagbara’s work reflects a humanist perspective on subjects including—but not limited to—family, beauty, society, government, and the systems that make up the reality that we call life, in all of its uniqueness to every individual
